That’ll be the 1.8 K Series engine.

Though I don’t know anyone that had a K Series issue.

There was a recall for the gasket years ago.

i thought they were just a bad design motor.

I think the idea of bolting the whole assemble together with a single set of (very long) bolts is a very nice one. Apparently the factory had problems getting proper preload for the gasket as this seems to be failing quite often.

The solution using the long bolts is also shared by M-B W196's engine.

Ye’, the recall was way back in 2004/5.

We had a 2003 75 with the 1.8 K Series engine. There was no issues with ours.
